Bikeability

Whats the difference between Bikeability and National Standards?

The training given is exactly the same. A National Standards course you get issued with a Level 1, 2 or 3 certificate, however, with a Bikeability course you get Bikeability branded certificates and badges for levels participated in.

Bikeability Level 1 Bikeability Level 2 Bikeability Level 3
Run off road, the course covers:
  • Carry out a simple bike check
  • Getting on and off the bike
  • Starting off and pedalling
  • Stopping safely
  • Riding without wobbling
  • Steering safely
  • Using gears correctly
  • Stop quickly with control
  • Manoeuvre to avoid objects
  • Look all around safely
  • Signal left and right safely
Run on road, the course covers:
  • Off Road Session to cover level 1
  • Starting and finishing a road journey
  • Awareness of surroundings as you ride
  • Understand how and when to signal
  • Understand where to ride on the road
  • Pass parked or slower vehicles
  • Pass side roads
  • Turning right out and in junctions
  • Turning left out and in junctions
  • Decide where cycle lanes are and how to use them
  • Safely undertake U-Turns
  • Mini roundabouts
Run on road, the course covers:
  • Assessment to Level 2 standard
  • Looking at routes to school / work
  • Tackling route problems
  • Hazard Perception
  • Dealing with local traffic situations
  • Traffic lights
